Happy Earth Day from PNY! Back in 2009 PNY made serious steps to reduce the amount of plastic waste that winds up in landfills every year, and switched over to an eco-friendly packaging that contains 70% less plastic than our previous packaging. Additionally, PNY fully supports the aims of the RoHS and WEEE (WasteElectrical and Electronic Equipment) initiatives to develop production technologies and post-consumer programs that reduce the environmental impact of lead and other potentially hazardous substances. In support of these initiatives, PNY is implementing lead-free assembly in its production facilities with the substitution of a lead-free soldering alloy (consisting of tin, silver and copper) and manufacturing processes consistent with product reliability requirements.
It was these types of environmental concerns that drew us to David de Rothschild's Plastiki expedition in 2010; where PNY provided flash memory cards and USB drives for the team's journey across the Pacific. The Plastiki crew successfully trekked 11,000 nautical miles in an effort to draw attention to the health of our oceans and the growing problem of plastic-related ocean pollution.
Now in 2011, de Rothschild has a new book out chronicling his ocean adventure: Plastiki: Across the Pacific on Plastic, An Adventure to Save Our Oceans. If you're in New York today (4/22/11), David will be signing copies of his book from 4PM-5:30pm @ Paragon Sports, 867 Broadway @ 18th Street, New York, NY 10003. The first 50 attendees will receive an advance copy of the Plastiki book.
Also, the National Geographic Channel has begun airing "The 12,000 Bottle Boat" a documentary that covers the Plastiki from inception to docking in the port of Sydney.
So, take a minute from your schedule today and think about how you impact Earth. We're all in this together...
